Saying No Cheat Sheet

1. Gratitude and don’t worry, it’s not personal

  • Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and support, I really appreciate it! I can’t take on anything else though, so I’m not able to do XYZ.

  • I really appreciate you asking me, but I’m fully committed already.

2. Appreciation and then vague but solid no

  • Thanks for asking, but that isn’t going to work for me.

  • Thanks for asking, but that unfortunately won’t work for me.

3. Solid no and then offer to send in a reinforcement or two

  • I can’t do it, but I bet Amanda or Paige can. I’ll put you in touch with them directly.

  • You know, I feel like moms are always getting to do the bake sales at school. Let’s ask Dad if he wants to help this year.

  • I just don’t have time right now. Let me recommend someone who may be able to help you.

4. Simple no

  • Thanks, I’ll have to pass on that though.

5. No, I made a promise to myself

  • During the Mindfulness Based Achievement Program I’m taking, I made a commitment that I wouldn’t take on any more projects right now. I’m working on creating more balance in my life. Thanks for your support in helping me make this happen.
